About us

Bridging the gaps in radiotherapy, together

The Croatian Association for Radiotherapy (CART) was founded with the goal of improving cancer treatment through modern, standardized, and equally accessible radiotherapy.

Our mission is to ensure that every cancer patient in Croatia – regardless of place of residence or socioeconomic status – has access to the highest-quality treatment based on evidence and the latest technologies.

We advocate for a system in which patients receive optimal care, healthcare professionals have opportunities for continuous professional development, and decision-makers recognize the key role of radiotherapy in the fight against cancer.

Who We Are

The Croatian Association for Radiotherapy (HURT) is a professional organization established with the aim of promoting and developing modern radiotherapy as a key element of oncological treatment. We bring together medical professionals, researchers, and health policy advocates in order to improve the accessibility and quality of radiotherapy treatments in Croatia. Through our activities, we strive to create an environment in which patients, doctors, and the healthcare system work together to raise the standards of cancer care.

The Croatian Association for Radiotherapy (HURT) is a professional organization established with the aim of promoting and developing modern radiotherapy as a key element of oncological treatment.

Our Members Include:

  • Specialists in radiotherapy and oncology
  • Medical physicists
  • Radiologic technologists
  • Experts in radiology, nuclear medicine, and surgery
  • Representatives of associations engaged in prevention, treatment, and support for cancer patients

But CART is more than a professional association – we are a community.

We want to be a safe and constructive place for dialogue between everyone involved in radiotherapy and cancer care: from healthcare professionals, scientists, and experts, to patients and their families, and also decision-makers and institutional representatives. Our goal is to connect different perspectives and experiences to build a better, fairer, and more effective oncology care system in Croatia – a system in which patients receive optimal care, healthcare workers can continuously develop professionally, and policymakers recognize radiotherapy as a cornerstone in the fight against cancer.

Key Pillars of Activity

Our goal is to connect all stakeholders who have the knowledge, experience, and willingness to standardize and modernize radiotherapy – from doctors, physicists, and radiologic technologists, through healthcare institutions and scientists, to decision-makers at the national and European level. We focus on three key pillars of activity:

Education and professional development

enabling continuous training of healthcare workers.

Collaboration and knowledge exchange

building strong connections among radiotherapy centers in Croatia and abroad.

Advocacy and policy

actively participating in shaping healthcare policies that recognize the importance of radiotherapy.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple but ambitious: to ensure that every cancer patient in Croatia has access to equally high-quality, modern, timely, and effective radiotherapy. We are guided by scientific evidence, best international practices, and the ethics of responsible action. Radiotherapy saves lives. Our task is to ensure that it can do so everywhere, always, and for everyone.

Our Vision

Our vision is a radiotherapy system that knows no compromise when it comes to cancer patient care. We believe in radiotherapy that continuously evolves and invests – in knowledge, in people, and in technology. One in which all patients, regardless of where they live, are in an equal position when facing illness. Where the staff is skilled, the equipment is modern, and the patient – the only person who truly has a problem – is at the center of every decision.
Together, we bridge gaps and build the kind of radiotherapy our citizens deserve.

Organizational Structure

HURT is led by a president and vice-president, supported by a secretary general and other active members. Our goal is to have representatives in all major Croatian cities to ensure equal representation and availability of expertise across the country.
Each member of our team actively contributes to creating a system in which radiotherapy is accessible, effective, and recognized as a key part of cancer care. Together, we are laying the foundations for a sustainable and fair future for cancer treatment in Croatia.
